Top 10 Ways to Get and Stay Healthy

Dr. Jason Loth, C.C.S.P., C.S.C.S.
Finally, here are the last 3 ways to get and stay healthy in 2008. There is no order of importance with these top 10, as some will carry more importance than others to certain individuals.

PROPER NUTRITION
One of the most important things people can do is to eat healthy. With so many different diets out there, people ask me, “Which one do I choose?” My response is, “None of them!” Diets are temporary, but lifestyle changes are long term and more stable. I believe that people should eat right for their metabolic type http://products.mercola.com/nutritionaltyping/. What is good for one isn’t necessarily good for another; however, there are some recommendations that apply to everyone. Whenever possible, you should eat raw, unprocessed, unaltered, fresh food. Things to stay away from include: high fructose corn syrup and other simple sugars, additives, preservatives, aspartame and other artificial sweeteners, inflammatory fats (corn oil, vegetable oil, cottonseed oil, peanut oil, soybean oil, and any hydrogenated oil), refined grains, and pasteurized dairy products. Allow yourself a splurge or two per week. If possible, make healthy splurges. If you eat healthy 95% of the time you are doing well. I will soon have a weight loss program to help you lose weight without dieting at www.DrLoth.com.

SUPPLEMENTATION
There are numerous supplements on the market today and many good ones at that. Unfortunately, the majority of supplements are synthetic and are not derived from a whole food source. Whenever possible, I believe supplements should come from whole food. God gave us food on this earth to nourish our bodies. There are many different supplements for different conditions, but there are five that I recommend for almost everyone. The ones I use are in parenthesis.

  1. Whole food multi-vitamin (Garden of Life – Living Multi, Greens First)
  2. Anti-inflammatory/Anti-oxidant (XanGo – whole mangosteen fruit)
  3. Omega 3 fatty acids (CodMega – Garden of Life, Krill Oil)
  4. Probiotics - good bacteria to maintain gastrointestinal health
(Primal Defense – Garden of Life)
  5. Magnesium (Calm – Natural Vitality)

DAILY TIME WITH CHRIST
Daily time with Christ - I personally think this is the most important. Having faith that Jesus went to the cross to die for my sins and accepting Him as my personal Lord and Savior, gives me hope and enables me to love others unconditionally. Believing the verse, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”(Romans 10:9). He is the reason I live. Spending time and praying on a daily basis allow me to put life in perspective. “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).
